What are angles?

The angles are the four most sensitive points in a chart, marked where the two great circles of the sky cross the band of the zodiac. The horizon runs east to west and gives the Ascendant on the eastern side and the Descendant on the western. The meridian runs top to bottom and gives the Midheaven at the highest point and the Imum Coeli at the lowest. Together these four points form a cross that frames the whole chart. The Ascendant and Descendant make the axis of self and other, running from how a person appears to what they seek in close relationship. The Midheaven and Imum Coeli make the axis of public and private, running from career and reputation down to home and roots. A planet sitting close to any angle is amplified, its themes pushed to the front of a person's life. The signs resting on the angles shape how a person meets the world and what they build within. Because the angles depend on the exact moment and place of birth, moving roughly one degree every four minutes, an accurate birth time matters a great deal.
