Composite Chart

A Composite Chart is a single chart that represents a relationship itself, created by combining two people's natal charts. The most common method takes the midpoints between each pair of planets, so the composite Sun sits halfway between the two people's Suns, and so on. The result is not either person's chart but a new one belonging to the partnership as its own entity. Where synastry compares two charts to see how the people interact, the composite describes the relationship as a third thing with its own character and purpose. It is read much like a natal chart, with its own Sun, Moon, ascendant, houses, and aspects, but everything is understood as belonging to the bond rather than to one individual. The composite can show the core themes of a relationship, what it is for, where it flows, and where it struggles. It is most often used for romantic partnerships but works for any significant pairing. The composite chart answers a different question from synastry, asking not how two people affect each other but what the relationship is in itself.
