Domicile

Domicile, often called rulership, is the first and strongest of the four essential dignities. A planet is in domicile when it occupies the sign it rules, where it is fully at home and able to express its nature with authority. Mars in Aries and the Moon in Cancer are in domicile, working from a position of natural command. A planet in its own sign acts with confidence and ease, much as a person does in their own house. It has full say over the affairs that sign governs, and its qualities come through clearly and constructively. Of all the placements a planet can hold, this is the most stable and self-possessed. Every sign has a ruler under the traditional scheme, and some planets rule one sign while others rule two. Domicile does more than measure strength, since a ruler also carries the matters of its sign wherever it sits in the chart, tying the whole picture together.
