What is astrology?

Astrology is the study of the sky as a mirror of life on Earth. The positions of the Sun, Moon, and planets at a given moment carry meaning, and the moment of a person's birth describes their character, their timing, and the shape of their life. A birth chart is a map of the heavens frozen at that instant, and learning to read it is learning to read a life. Astrology works as a language. Each planet, sign, and house is a word with its own range of meaning, and a chart is the sentence they form together. A reading is the craft of drawing those meanings out and seeing how they combine, a skill that grows with study and attention. The tradition is ancient and continuous. The Babylonians tracked the planets against the stars and kept careful records over centuries. The Hellenistic world gathered those observations into the chart-based system Western astrology still uses, and living traditions developed alongside it across India, Persia, and the medieval world.
