In sect is a supportive condition a planet gains by matching the time of day a person was born. It rests on a basic split: every chart is either a day chart, when the Sun was above the horizon at birth (diurnal), or a night chart, when the Sun was below it (nocturnal).
Each planet also has a side it prefers. The day planets are the Sun, Jupiter, and Saturn. The night planets are the Moon, Venus, and Mars. Mercury can join either one, depending on whether it rises before or after the Sun.
A planet is in sect when it matches the chart, a day planet in a day chart or a night planet in a night chart. This gives it quiet support, so it tends to act at its best and show its steadier side. The effect is easiest to see in the strongest planets. The two naturally helpful planets, the benefics Venus and Jupiter, give a little more of their good, and the two harsher planets, the malefics Mars and Saturn, cause less trouble. Being in sect means a planet is working with the chart rather than against it.
