Lot of Necessity

The Lot of Necessity is one of the Hermetic lots, the calculated points that round out the set of seven. It is drawn from three factors, the Ascendant together with Mercury and the Lot of Fortune, and its formula reverses between day and night births. Its classical planet is Mercury. By sign, the Lot of Necessity describes the style of the constraints a person meets and how they tend to handle what binds them. By house, it shows the area of life where obligation presses hardest, where freedom is limited and duty, dependency, or hard necessity shapes their choices. It often marks where a person must accept what cannot be changed. As its name suggests, Necessity speaks to constraint and compulsion, the pressures and fated circumstances a person cannot easily escape. It carries the weight of what is required rather than what is desired.
