Lot of Spirit

The Lot of Spirit is one of the Arabic lots and the mirror of the Lot of Fortune. It is a calculated point drawn from the same three factors, the Ascendant, the Sun, and the Moon, but in reverse order, so the two lots answer each other. The day formula is Ascendant plus Sun minus Moon, reversed for a night birth. Its classical planet is the Sun. By sign, the Lot of Spirit describes the style of a person's willful action and the way they pursue their aims. By house, it shows the area of life where they are meant to take deliberate initiative, often tied to career, ambition, and what a person actively builds rather than receives. Where Fortune is about what comes to a person, Spirit is about what they set in motion through will and effort. In traditional astrology the pair is read together, one received and one chosen, one passive and one active. The work of the Lot of Spirit is to act with intention, putting conscious effort toward the goals that give a life direction.
