North Node

The North Node is one of the two lunar nodes, the places where the Moon's orbit crosses the apparent path of the Sun. It is a calculated point rather than a body. In astrology it marks the direction of growth, the qualities and experiences a person is here to develop. It points toward unfamiliar ground, the traits that do not come naturally but bring the deepest sense of progress once a person leans into them. By sign, the North Node describes the kind of growth being asked for, the way of being worth building even though it feels awkward at first. By house, it shows the area of life where that development is meant to unfold. Moving toward the North Node often feels uncomfortable, like stretching into a skill not yet learned, and yet this is where lasting fulfillment tends to be found. The North Node always sits exactly opposite the South Node, and the two are read as one axis. Where the South Node holds the familiar past, the North Node holds the growth edge. Its work is to move, a little at a time, in the direction the chart points.
