Saturn

Saturn governs structure and discipline.

Saturn governs structure and discipline. It represents limits, responsibility, time, and the hard work that builds something lasting, along with maturity, patience, and the lessons that come through difficulty. Saturn is the part of life that asks us to grow up and earn what we have. It rules the sign Capricorn, and in traditional astrology it also rules Aquarius. As a social planet it takes about twenty-nine years to circle the chart. By sign, Saturn describes how a person handles duty, fear, and self-discipline. By house, it shows the area of life where they meet their greatest challenges and, in time, their greatest mastery. A well-developed Saturn gives endurance, integrity, competence, and real authority. When Saturn is heavy, it can bring fear, rigidity, harsh self-criticism, or a sense of lack and restriction. Saturn rewards effort slowly, often later in life. Its work is mature responsibility, accepting limits and doing the patient work that turns difficulty into strength and lasting achievement.
