Same planet, different manner. Each sign carries an element and a modality, and together these set its temperament. The element (fire, earth, air, or water) describes its basic nature, warm and active or cool and steady. The modality (cardinal, fixed, or mutable) describes how it meets change, whether it starts something, sustains it, or adapts. Each sign also has a ruling planet and a natural link to one of the houses. A sign is style, not identity; it shapes how a placement acts without deciding which part of life that placement governs.
