South Node

The South Node is the second of the two lunar nodes, always sitting exactly opposite the North Node. It is a calculated point, not a body, marking the other place where the Moon's orbit crosses the path of the Sun. In astrology it represents the past, the comfort zone, and the qualities a person already carries with ease. These are familiar gifts and well-worn habits, the things so natural they can be leaned on without thought. By sign, the South Node describes the talents and patterns a person brings with them, the ways of being that feel like home. By house, it shows the area of life where they fall back on old habits, usually the path of least resistance. The South Node holds real skill, yet leaning on it too heavily keeps a person circling the same ground instead of growing. The South Node is read together with the North Node as a single axis. The aim is not to throw away its gifts but to draw on them while reaching toward the North Node. Its work is to release what has become a hiding place and carry forward only what still serves.
