The Building Blocks

Four kinds of thing carry most of the meaning in a chart, and it helps to hold them as four plain questions.

Four kinds of thing carry most of the meaning in a chart, and it helps to hold them as four plain questions. A planet is the what: the drive or function at work, such as Venus for affection and values. A sign is the how: the style that drive takes on, whether bold, cautious, playful, or reserved. A house is the where: the area of life it shows up in, from money to home to career. An aspect is the connection: the angle between two planets that links their functions together. A small example ties them together. Say a person has Mars, the planet of drive and assertion, in Libra, a sign that prefers balance and fairness. That gives a person who pushes for their aims in a measured, diplomatic way. Place that Mars in the tenth house, the area of career and public standing, and the drive points toward professional life. If Mars also forms an aspect to Venus, the assertive streak gets woven together with charm and relationships. Read in that order, what, how, where, and connection, most placements become approachable.
