A Wedge is an aspect pattern made of three planets, sometimes called a Minor Grand Trine. Two of the planets sit in opposition, and a third planet forms a trine to one of them and a sextile to the other. On the chart the three points make a wedge shape, with the opposition as the base and the third planet as the tip.
A Wedge is a balanced pattern that leans toward harmony. The opposition supplies tension and the pull of two opposing needs, while the trine and sextile from the third planet offer an easy outlet for working that tension out. The third planet becomes a release point and a mediator, helping the two ends of the opposition cooperate rather than simply clash.
This makes the Wedge gentler than a T-Square, since it carries built-in relief. The focal planet shows where a person can find resolution and turn the strain of the opposition into something constructive. The work of a Wedge is to lean on that supportive third planet, using its talents to bridge the opposing forces.
